September edition of the AG Blog. Annabeth and husband Wade Allen are expecting their first child this coming January (2007). Enjoy!

Hi folks!

Well, August was a pretty hectic month. What with leaving Lear to go to Halifax, Nova Scotia to work on a Hallmark Hall of Fame television movie, and struggling through the first months of a pregnancy it was a rollercoaster of a late summer!

Yep, you read right - I'm pregnant, or rather I should say, Wade and I are pregnant since he had a little something to do with my current state ... (My pregnancy was the other not-so-insignificant circumstance involved in my withdrawal from the play - it was simply too difficult to swim in the deep Shakespearean waters with the morning sickness and fatigue I was feeling). We are thrilled, excited, terrified, all of the normal feelings of overwhelm and joy I think most couples go through on the baby ride. We are due in January so as we move into Autumn now we will have some time to nest and prepare our lives and our home for a little baby.

I don't know when the Hallmark movie will air, but it is tentatively called Candles on Bay Street and it is a guaranteed hankie movie ... It also stars Alicia Silverstone.

Brotherhood has three more episodes of the first season to air, with the season finale on September 24th. It's a particularly great episode and for those of you who are watching, it promises good drama, conflict and story! No news yet if there will be a second season of the show ... hard to believe, but it's struggling to keep good numbers ... Any support helps from those of you who genuinely want it to continue ... E-mail Showtime, tell your friends, etc. ...

On another note, I want to acknowledge the life and spirit of a very special woman. A dear friend of ours, Marni Levine lost her battle to cancer last week and so many people are grieving the loss of her presence on this planet. A beautiful memorial to her can be seen at http://kravmaga.com/krav01.html. She is an example to me of a woman who embodies courage, beauty, strength, and the true essence of motherhood. We will miss her greatly.

Be well and take care,
Annabeth

A special note from Annabeth.

Dear Folks,

I have some disappointing news. Due to some extenuating circumstances and professional reasons I had to withdraw from the production of Lear. I was offered a job that I simply had to take. It was an agonizing decision but I will be replaced by a fantastic understudy who will surely take the role and run! The entire company has been supportive and gracious and anyone must surely still go to see this production as it will revitalize your understanding and experience of Shakespeare. I'll share more details later, but know that I took so much from my 4 weeks of rehearsals for the play and am forever changed for it - as an artist/actress and as a human being!

Best,
Annabeth

July edition of the AG Blog. Enjoy!

Hi all!

Hope everyone had a nice 4th of July holiday. I was actually in rehearsals for a few hours before coming home to make some bbq chicken and my grandmother's potato salad. It was a mellow, easy day. Rehearsals are going well. Every day is challenging and inspiring. Obviously being Shakespeare, the material itself is very complex and rich, but the exceptional weight of Lear's tragedy and the heightened agony suffered by each character in his family and in his kingdom, makes it rather daunting to perform. I've read some scholars who say it is one of the most impossible plays to put up. However, our director, Patsy Rodenburg, is astonishing in her knowledge of the text and in her ability to push us all into it with great faith and security. I know for sure that I am working under the hands of a master. Every day I am moved and driven by her tireless dedication to bringing Shakespeare to us, all of us, so it is accessible to our very breath and body. For the performer and audience. She is inspiring on a great many levels. Everyone in the company is digging in, doing great work, and passionate about this journey. I've asked Courtney to put up the article in the recent LA Stage magazine for anyone who might want more in-depth information about this production, Patsy, and the company she has assembled here in Los Angeles [SEE ABOVE]. If any of you are actors, performers, do public speaking of any kind, I would recommend you purchase any of her books about speaking and voice. They are invaluable resources.

For anyone who is interested, King Lear will open July 28th and run through August 27th at the Electric Lodge in Venice, CA. It is an intimate, 99 seat theatre. Tickets are available through BrownPaperTickets but specifically at this link: http://www.brownpapertickets.com/event/5475

And of course, last but not least, Brotherhood begins this Sunday night on Showtime!!!

That's the update! I hope everyone is healthy, safe and happy!

All the best,
Annabeth
