The poignant drama premieres on Monday, May 10 [, 1999] from 9-11pm ET/PT Academy Award-nominee and Golden Globe Winner Lynn Redgrave (Gods and Monsters, Shine), stars with Annabeth Gish (Mystic Pizza, The Last Supper) and Cecilley Carroll (The Last Don, Harriet the Spy) in the compelling Lifetime Original Movie Different. The film will premiere on Monday, May 10 [, 1999] from 9-11 pm ET/PT. Hope Talmadge's (Gish) life was full of the promise of an 11-year-old until a car accident left her mentally disabled. Amanda Talmadge (Redgrave) could never come to terms with her daughter's imperfections and sent Hope away to special schools and group homes her entire life. Now 30, Hope strives to live a normal life with her husband Bernie (Ben Siegler), also disabled, and their healthy 11-year-old daughter Libby (Carroll). When the closing of their group home forces a reunion between mother and daughter, Amanda is introduced to her only granddaughter. In Libby, Amanda sees the perfect child that Hope once was. In her grandmother, Libby feels the security of having a "mom" like everyone else. When Hope realizes that her daughter's affection is being stolen from her, she confronts her mother, challenging the already tenuous family dynamic. With their unresolved emotional issues finally aired, mother, daughter and grandmother must come to terms with their individual roles within the family.
