Cedar Falls has never claimed to be Hollywood, New York City, or Paris. Residents may not be able to hop a cab on the corner or spot movie stars at their favorite restaurants, but this town has had its fair share of talent. Who knows what best-selling author or major motion picture star may someday tout Cedar Falls, Iowa, as home?

Annabeth Gish

Annabeth Gish was just an eighth-grader at Price Laboratory School in Cedar Falls when she received the news that she had won a starring role in "Desert Bloom," a film starring Jon Voight and Ellen Barkin.

When the film was released in 1986, critics and audiences hailed her as the next big thing. Since then, Gish has stayed in touch with her Cedar Falls roots while acting in steady roles on TV and in film.

Gish continued to perform in plays at Northern University High School after receiving her big break. Always an advocate of Iowa, Gish had her character in the film Hiding Out attend the University of Iowa.

More recently, Gish took a front and center role in the cult hit television show The X-Files.
